Anmeldung is the mandatory registration of your residential address with the local Bürgeramt (citizens office). German law requires you to register within 14 days of moving into your apartment. After registration, you receive a Meldebescheinigung which is required for opening bank accounts, applying for residence permits, and receiving your tax ID.

The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is a legally required form that your landlord must sign confirming that you have moved into the apartment. It includes the landlord's name, the property address, and your move-in date. Without this form, the Bürgeramt will not process your Anmeldung. Most landlords know about this requirement, but some, especially private landlords or subletters, may not. We provide the correct form and ensure your landlord completes it before your appointment.

Yes, if you have a proper rental agreement or sublease contract and the landlord or main tenant provides a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Hotels and Airbnbs generally do not qualify because the operator cannot provide a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung in most cases. Schufa (Schutzgemeinschaft für allgemeine Kreditsicherung) is Germany's primary credit reporting agency. You can request a free Schufa report once per year through meineschufa.de (Datenkopie nach Art. 15 DS-GVO) or pay approximately 30 euros for an instant BonitätsAuskunft. Budget 30 to 40 percent of your net salary for housing. Rents are quoted as Kaltmiete (cold rent, base rent only) or Warmmiete (warm rent, including heating and building maintenance costs).
